In 2026, the official Swedish translation of the New Testament was updated for the first time in over 40 years. We were commissioned by the publishing house Verbum to design a new range of Bibles. The typeface, colors and patterns were carefully selected to modernize the design while preserving the books heritage and bringing their original essence into a contemporary context.
The classic red Bible with gilt edges.
The headlines and details on the red Bible have a restrained expression and are set in blue.
In parallel with our commission, Nina Ulmaja worked on the body text to ensure the highest possible legibility.
The modern dark blue Bible features a tone-on-tone cross and endpapers with dense, marbled patterns that create a sense of movement.
In the blue Bible, the headlines are more expressive and set in red. The red border along the outer margins marks the New Testament.
The New Testament is presented in a sober, tactile red cover, in the same format as the full Bibles.
The New Testament shares the same inlay design as the classic red Bible, with the addition of marbled endpapers.
On the paperback edition of The New Testament, the marbled pattern covers the book.
This inlay is presented in a more accessible style, designed to appeal to a wider audience, including readers who are less familiar with the Bible.
